Carillon Historical Park - Living History Assistant - PT Positions

Living History Assistant

Revision Date: August, 2021
Reports to: Living History Specialist
Supervises: N/A
Classification: Non-exempt

Basic Function: 

The focus of the position is to provide Park visitors with historical interpretation and to lead educational workshops for visiting groups. Through conversation and demonstration, persons in this position will connect visitors to the people, places, and events of Dayton, Ohio. Part-time position available.

Qualification Requirements:  

  • Education in History, Public History, Museum Studies or related field
  • Experience working with children preferred
  • Strong communication and interpretation skills; willingness to improve skills
  • Desire to work with large groups of children and adults
  • Customer service oriented
  • Positive, cheerful and professional attitude
  • Must be able to work outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions, and be able to stand for long periods of time
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekend

General Responsibilities: 

  • Interact with individuals and groups touring Carillon Historical Park
  • Provide historical information and answer questions about assigned building
  • Demonstrate appropriate 19th century skills and trades; including but not limited to gardening, hearth cooking, woodworking, sewing, etc.
  • Lead workshops throughout the year
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers
  • Care for all Park materials and exhibits, whether indoors or outdoors
  • Continue to expand knowledge of our history through independent reading and research
  • Acquire one or more 19th century skill(s) for the purpose of demonstrating to the public
  • Adhere to period clothing guidelines as directed by Living History Coordinator

Line of Communication and Accountability: 

  • This position reports to the Living History Specialist

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

  • Work flexible hours which will include weekends and holidays
  • Work outdoors in varying conditions and in buildings that lack climate control
  • Stand for extended periods of time
  • Walking, lifting, kneeling, bending, crouching and seeing in varying light conditions
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. to shoulder height
  • Show flexibility to perform other duties as assigned

Carillon Historical Park - Museum Store/Guest Services Staff - FT & PT Positions

Museum Store/Guest Services Staff – FT & PT Positions

Reports to: Museum Store Manager
Supervises: Entry Level (Non-Supervisory)

Basic Function: 

This position exists to welcome guests to Carillon Historical Park, provide information and customer service, and sell admission tickets and memberships as well as provide retail sales support in the museum gift shop as directed by the Museum Store Manager. Full-time and part-time positions are available.

Qualification Requirements:  

  • Familiarity with POS (point of sale) systems and the ability to learn new technologies
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Effective team member
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Cheerful, friendly personality
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including some weekends

General Responsibilities: 

  • Greet guests to Carillon Historical Park, sell admission tickets, provide directions and museum information.
  • Upsell specialty tours and museum memberships
  • Assist guests shopping in museum store, build rapport through conversation and honest recommendations
  • Ring up museum store sales
  • Assist in creating appealing merchandise displays and keeping sales floor clean and organized at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining the stock room and counting inventory as needed

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Accurately operate POS system and count money
  • Accurately enter membership details into software program

  • This position requires the ability to stand for long periods of time.

Carillon Brewing Company - Line Cook

Line Cook

Reports to: Kitchen Manager
Supervises: Mid-Level (Non-Supervisory)
Classification: Non-Exempt

Carillon Brewing Co. is a unique craft brewery, owned and operated by Dayton History, that specializes in historic beer production and features traditional German American fare. The core of Dayton History’s mission is to educate and preserve.

Basic Function: 

The primary role of the line cook is to prepare menu items according to recipes and the Kitchen Manager’s direction. The Line Cook should always maintain plating and presentation specifications and standards. The Line Cook is responsible for final product quality and cooking standards per the Kitchen Manager’s directions.

Qualification Requirements:

  • A passion for cuisine and cooking
  • Minimum 2-year experience preferred, from-scratch experience a plus
  • Strong communication skills and ability to take direction
  • Available for various shifts including weekends
  • Interest in Craft Beer and associated cuisine
  • Be a team player
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Effective stress management and conflict resolution skills
  • Willingness to work flexible and extended hours, as needed

General Skills

  • A Passion for cuisine and craft beer pairings

The core of Dayton History’s mission is to educate and preserve. As a part of Dayton History, Carillon Brewing Co.’s primary goal is to both immerse our guests in a welcoming, entertaining, historic, and educational experience. The Food Runner/Busser works with the kitchen manager and other brewery staff to ensure our guests have a high-quality and enjoyable experience by serving food in a timely and accurate manner.

Basic Function: 

This position exists to facilitate collaboration between the kitchen and front of house. Basic responsibilities include serving food, bussing tables, prep for future services, and assisting with setup and execution of special events.

General Responsibilities: 

  • Deliver food orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables quickly and accurately
  • Act as point of contact between the front of house and back of house
  • Communicate information to kitchen manager and line cooks with attention to priorities and special requests
  • Assist with bussing tables and sanitization
  • Answer guests’ questions and ensure they have everything they need
  • Answer basic questions about the Brewery and Carillon Park
  • Communicate customer feedback to the appropriate staff

Carillon Historical Park - Event Bartenders

Event Bartenders

Carillon Historical Park, a beautiful, open-air museum campus south of downtown Dayton, is seeking dynamic individuals to serve as bartenders during wedding receptions, corporate meetings, and a wide array of special events. Successful candidates must possess relevant experience in tending bar, consistently exhibit a guest-first attitude, and be professional in both appearance and in all interactions with guests and event staff.

Due to the nature of special event scheduling, bartender shifts will be intermittent and will be confirmed several weeks in advance. Bartenders will be compensated as independent contractors and can expect payment at the conclusion of a scheduled event shift. Bartenders are paid $15/hour, plus a $60 prepaid tip, plus cash tips received during the event.
