Carillon Historical Park - Museum Store/Guest Services Staff - PT & FT

Carillon Historical Park – Museum Store/Guest Services Staff – PT & FT

Basic Function: 

This position exists to welcome guests to Carillon Historical Park, provide information and customer service, and sell admission tickets and memberships as well as provide retail sales support in the museum gift shop as directed by the Museum Store Manager.

General Responsibilities: 

  • Greet guests to Carillon Historical Park, sell admission tickets, provide directions and museum information.

  • Assist guests shopping in museum store, build rapport through conversation and honest recommendations
  • Ring up museum store sales
  • Assist in creating appealing merchandise displays and keeping sales floor clean and organized at all times.
  • Assist in maintaining the stock room and counting inventory as needed

Carillon Historical Park - Museum Theater/Living History Assistant - PT

Museum Theater/Living History Assistant- PT

Basic Function: 

The focus of the position is to provide Park visitors with historical interpretation and to lead educational programming. Through conversation and demonstration, persons in this position will connect visitors to the people, places, and events of Dayton, Ohio.

This is a part-time seasonal position; however, additional opportunities may be available beyond January 2022.

Qualification Requirements:  

  • Education in History, Public History, Museum Studies, Theater or related field.  Experience working with children preferred.
  • Strong communication and interpretation skills; willingness to improve skills.
  • Desire to work with large groups.
  • Customer service-oriented.
  • Positive, cheerful, and professional attitude.
  • Must be able to work outdoors, in a variety of weather conditions, and be able to stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends up to 35 hours per week.
  • This is a temporary position from October 2021 to January 2022.  Additional employment opportunities beyond January may be available.

General Responsibilities: 

  • Provide historical information and answer questions about assigned building; opportunity to work in varied themed experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with other staff members and volunteers.
  • Care for all Park materials and exhibits, whether indoors or outdoors.
  • Continue to expand knowledge of our history through independent reading and research.
  • Adhere to period clothing guidelines as directed by Living History Specialist.

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

  • Work flexible hours which will include weekends and holidays.
  • Work outdoors in varying conditions and in buildings that lack climate control.

Carillon Historical Park - Event Services Coordinator - FT

Carillon Historical Park – Event Services Coordinator – FT

Basic Function: 

This position exists to sell, plan, oversee and implement all event rentals at Dayton History owned and managed facilities to meet or exceed guest satisfaction and financial goals.

This position is responsible for all rentals requiring buildings, rooms, parking or outside space within the Carillon Historical Park campus, as well as those at the Patterson Homestead, Old Courthouse, Memorial Hall, and Hawthorn Hill. The Event Services Coordinator will work closely with the Education, Guest Services, Facilities, and Curatorial Departments, and Carillon Catering’s restaurant staff when rentals impact daytime museum operations and/or involve exhibit buildings or interpretive staff.

This position works with the Food & Beverage Director to develop the strategy, design and implementation for all rental events, ensuring that revenue goals are met while operating within budget constraints and mission.

Qualification Requirements:  

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred with a minimum of three years’ successful experience in event planning and sales
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Exceptional organizational and communications skills
  • Outstanding customer service skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to smoothly resolve interpersonal conflicts and deal with difficult people with tact and diplomacy

General Responsibilities: 

  • Establish and maintain relationships with vendors
  • Plan event details with rental customers
  • Ensure event rental contracts are signed by customers and managed in an organized manner
  • Create reliable financial reports and collect payments on time
  • Manage events and address potential problems that may arise
  • Plan for potential scenarios that could impact the integrity of the event
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the complex needs of a wide variety of events

Position Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the Park’s liaison to all renters. Answer rental related inquiries by phone and email. Meet with prospective renters to tour facilities.
  • Coordinate event rental details and logistics at all Dayton History properties including the Patterson Homestead, Carillon Historical Park, Hawthorn Hill, Old Courthouse and Memorial Hall.
  • Work seamlessly with all necessary departments of Dayton History to event rental direct activities when daytime museum operations may be impacted and/or event needs involve exhibit buildings or interpretive staff.
  • Direct and work with wedding coordinators, vendors, and service providers to arrange for wedding ceremonies, celebrations and/or receptions at Dayton History owned and managed properties
  • Be present or arrange for qualified staff to be present during all associated activities

Line of Communication and Accountability:

  • This position reports to the Food & Beverage Director.
  • This position works closely with Event Services Captains to ensure seamless execution of rental events.
  • This is a public-facing position representing Dayton History to its many constituents. Tact, diplomacy and professionalism are essential.

Physical Requirements of the Job: 

  • Incumbent must be able to work on a computer for hours at a time.
  • During events, incumbent must be able to be physically active and on the move for up to 10 hours at a time.

Basic Function: 

This position exists to implement event logistics as sold to facility rental customers, supervise event services staff during an event, and provide excellent guest service. A successful candidate has the potential to grow this position into a full-time role.

  • 1 – 2 years event set experience
  • Ability to read and decipher floor layout plans for events

Basic Function: 

This position exists to keep Dayton History properties, buildings and grounds clean, safe and in good repair at all times for guests and employees.

Qualification Requirements:  

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • One to three years’ relevant experience preferred, but not required
  • Knowledge of and ability to use specific equipment: lawn mowing/blowing equipment, plowing tractors, and general building maintenance equipment.

General Responsibilities: 

  • General grounds-keeping.
  • General building maintenance.
  • Trash pickup and removal.
  • Un-arm and re-arm security alarms in Carillon Historical Park buildings at beginning and end of each day.

Position Responsibilities: 

  • Mow, trim, blow walks, landscape, and remove leaves (spring / summer / fall).
  • Remove snow, salt walks and maintain safe winter grounds conditions.
  • Prep, paint, repair buildings and perform general maintenance on all Dayton History sites.
  • Move heavy pieces and relocate artifacts and collection pieces.
  • Maintain equipment in good working condition: lawn and landscape equipment, vehicles and carousel.

This position exists to keep the kitchen running smoothly by cleaning and sanitizing dishes so that Line Cooks, Food Runner / Bussers, and Bartenders have the supplies they need to prepare food and beverages and serve it to guests.

  • Assist with taking garbage and trash to dumpster area.
  • Assist with washing work areas, refrigerators, cooking equipment, walls and floors in order to meet or exceed food safety standards.
  • Assemble, maintain, and break down the dish machine when needed (training will be provided).
  • Assist with prep work when needed.
