Come join us at the Patterson Homestead for a 19th century
afternoon tea. You will enjoy tea service from costumed
interpreters and a bread, sandwich and dessert course all
baked from authentic Victorian Era recipes. Each of our teas
will highlight the history of the Patterson family, the time they
lived in, and the historic Homestead itself. Unless otherwise
noted, all teas take place at the Patterson Homestead from
2:00 pm – 4:00 pm and cost $18 per Dayton History member,
and $20 per non-member.
Private teas are available to groups with 12 or more people.

December 3th & 4th, 2011 – Christmas Tea
Take in the beauty of the season at the Patterson Homestead. Enjoy holiday treats, and see the Homestead decorated for a Victorian Era Christmas.
February 11, 2012 – Valentine’s Tea
Decades ago those who were married, betrothed, or simply friends could only communicate through writing. Read some of the old letters between Jefferson and Julia Patterson while enjoying a nice, warm cup of tea.
February 12, 2012 – Valentine’s Tea – SOLD OUT
March 11, 2012 – Jane Austen Tea
By the Victorian Era, Jane Austen had gained worldwide popularity. Find out how the Patterson family would have celebrated this author.
April 14, 2012 – High Tea (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
Enjoy a hearty high tea at the Patterson Homestead. This evening tea features a more substantial menu than our typical afternoon teas. This unique event costs $28 per Dayton History member and $30 per non-member.
May 20, 2012 – Women of the Era Tea
Women’s jobs in the Victorian Era were never ending. Hear about how Julia Patterson and other women found themselves running farms, keeping house, and taking care of their families, all while being delightful hostesses.
June 10, 2012 – Etiquette Tea
In the Victorian Era, there was a proper way and an improper way to attend a tea. Learn how you would have visited friends and acquaintances, attended or hosted a tea, and even how to subtly communicate using your fan.
August 19, 2012 – Herb Tea
In addition to making food delicious, many herbs also have medicinal qualities. Become versed in the culinary, as well as the medicinal, uses of herbs at this tea.
September 9, 2012 – High Tea (6:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
A second opportunity to enjoy a High Tea, as described above.
September 30, 2012 – Harvest Tea
As the harvest came, the Patterson family would need to be busy preparing for the winter months ahead. Discover the preservation techniques used during the Victorian Era.
November 11, 2012 – Thanksgiving Tea
After the harvest was collected and stored, it was time to celebrate and givethanks for a bountiful crop. Come celebrate this wonderful time of year.
December 1, 2 & 8, 2012 – Christmas Teas
