Settler Survival Summer Camps Return to Carillon Historical Park!

 

Once again, Carillon Historical Park is proud to present the Settler Survival Summer Camp series! Don't miss the opportunity for your young one to experience the Miami Valley from an early settler’s perspective. Participate in everyday chores and activities that enabled settlers to survive on the wild frontier. Learn about early firearms, early travel methods, hearth cooking, woodworking, textiles, gardening. candle making and games.

Costumed interpreters will lead participants through an intense history experience. A few of the activities children will participate in will include...

   • Make their own hand-dipped beeswax candle
   • Cook their lunch over the hearth
   • Play the games that children played 200 years ago
   • Practice using a drop spindle to make yarn
   • Use a shaving horse to work with wood
   • Identify herbs in the heirloom garden
   • Learn about musket firing and watch a demonstration
 

Share in 1830s fun after the chores are done, including music, treats, and more!

The 2010 Settler Survival Summer Camps will take place from: June 21-25, July 19-23 and August 2-6.

Each series is designed from children ages 8 to 12, and will be held each day from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. Cost for this exciting series is just $150.00 for 35 hours of educational fun! Dayton History members receive a $10 discount per child. Two or more camp registrations in the same family receive a $10 discount per child.
