istory at a Glance takes a look at some
of the events, people and places that have shaped the history of the
Miami Valley.
In Daytons Fifth River: the Miami-Erie
Canal, we look at the history of the manmade waterway which allowed
the Miami Valley to expand its markets across a large region from
the Ohio River to the Great Lakes.
And the Rains Came: Dayton and the
1913 Flood describes the biggest natural disaster in the history of
the community, and features forty never-before-seen color lantern
slides documenting the event.
In Through the Cameras Eye,
we look at the life and photographs of Albert Kern, a Dayton attorney
and amateur photographer, whose remarkable imagery dates from 1890
to 1922.
In Found: One Missing Time Capsule,
we showcase materials found in the time capsule which was discovered
in the summer of 2000, by workers excavating in Van Cleve Park in
downtown Dayton for the Riverscape project.
In Hawthorn Hill: The Wright Family
Home, we will learn about the Oakwood home of Orville, Katharine
and Bishop Milton Wright, illustrated with photographs taken just
weeks after Orville's death in 1948.
Moraine Park School: A Progressive Education looks at Dayton's
experimental school that served students from the late teens into
the mid-1920s.
Step back in time to Old River Park, NCR's employee
recreational facility to see how many Daytonians spent their summer
days.
